Fen-Phen

What is Fen-Phen?

Fen-Phen is a combination of two prescription drugs namely fenlfuramine and phentermine. Fen-phen is a weight loss prescription drug that can help in suppressing the appetite of obese patients. This drug is also known as FenPhen, Phen-Fen, or PhenFen.

Fen-Phen History

Beginning 1989 to September 1997, two prescription drugs for weight loss were being sold in the United States. These drugs are Pondimin (fenfluramine) and Redux (dexfenfluramine). Since 1992m physicians would prescribe this drug in combination with phentermine, which is also a prescription drug for weight loss. Phentermine has numerous brand names manufactured by different companies. The combination was termed as fen-phen. An estimate of 4 million users in the United States took Pondimin from January 1995 to September 1997. On the other hand, Redux was used from June 1986 to September 1997.

Fen-Phen Problems

The Mayo Clinic conducted a research in mid-1997 and found out an association between fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine and Valvular Heart Disease. In September 15, 1997 the FDA announced that Pondimin and Redux should not be sold in the market. After it has been withdrawn in the market, numerous studies also proven the relationship between these two drugs and a fatal condition called primary pulmonary hypertension.

Fen-Phen Diet Pill Users

Almost 6 million individuals have used the fen-phen combination for weight loss. According to studies, one fourth has suffered from heart conditions. The Mayo Clinic conducted a study on individuals who took fen-phen and a second study on those who took dexfenfluramine alone. The results are almost similar, with patients who suffered heart damage from the intake of the two drugs.

Phentermine does cause you to pee a lot, make sure to drink plenty of water so you don’t ddtyerahe. Also in the past when i took phentermine i would be hungry at night, so i started taking the pill later in the day. Or you could take half in the morning and half later in the day, but not to late since it can cause problems with sleeping. I also avoided junk food especially when i first started taking it. First month i lost 17 pounds, the following months were 5 to 10 pounds.
