According to the advertisement of Cortislim, it says that the product can actually decrease the quantity of cortisol present in the body. Cortisol is a hormone that causes increased stress levels. Cortislim manufacturers claim that stress is one of the major causes of obesity or weight gain and controlling cortisol levels can reduce stress and it could somehow help in weight loss.

Cortislim FTC Dispute

FTC is not happy with the manufacturers of Cortislim and Cortistress. According to the FTC, the manufacturers made fake statements and unproven claims in their advertisements. Aside from that, the manufacturers also claimed that cortisol is the “stress hormone” and the main reason for weight gain.

Based from FTC, Cortislim made these claims:

Leads to weight loss of at least 10 to 50 pounds

Helps the user to shed 4 to 10 pounds per week

Helps in weight loss especially in the abdomen, thighs, and stomach

Result in quick weight loss

FTC felt that these claims were not true and were done to lure customers. The FTC also said that such claims were not proven. The manufacturers finally settled the case by paying $1.2 million because of the false claims.

FDA and Cortislim

The FDA wrote to the manufacturers of Cortislim and Cortistress last August 19, 2004. The FDA warned that their products are misbranded.

FDA vied the label of Cortislim as well as the information and unsupported statements such as “eliminates cravings”, “burns calories through thermogenesis”, and “supports healthy cortisol levels”.

What Researchers Say about Cortislim

According to researchers, they are not sure if Cortislim works as it claims to. The relationship between stress, cortisol, and weight gain are not yet proven and some experts said that not everyone who has high stress produce a lot of cortisol.

Cortislim Ingredients

Calcium and Vitamin C – have nothing much to do with weight loss.

Leptiplex Thermogenic Blend – has green tea and orange peel

Chromium 50 mcg in Cortislim formulation. This may not be enough to produce weight loss

Proprietary Blend – Cortiplex Cortisol Control Blend has Magnolia Bark, Beta-SitoserolL-Theanine and Licorice Root PE

Most of the ingredients mentioned are not really beneficial to weight loss though they look good as ingredients. Medical research suggests that these ingredients do not actually affect the cortisol hormone.

Cortislim’s formulation is apparently weak and the thermogenic blend is only 125mg which is not enough to cause weight loss although the ingredients are proven to improve metabolism.

Summary

Cortislim made unproven claims in their advertisements, misleading potential buyers. Aside from that, the claim about cortisol levels is weak. Cortislim’s capability to decrease the cortisol levels is not proven. Hence, if you are looking for an effective weight loss product, it is better to look for other alternatives.
