Women Eat Less when Dining with Men

Eating is considered to be a social activity. Based from a recent study conducted in Canada, women eat less when dining with men.

When women are dining with men, they are more conscious with their acts especially during dates. Women tend to be more careful with their actions because they are afraid to give a negative impression especially in terms of the food that they eat. Some women have this perception that men could think of them as less feminine or less attractive if they eat too much.

However, this perception is only true if women are dining with men. When these women are dining with their female friends, they tend to eat more and become less conscious of their acts. This is also the same when women are eating alone.

The impact of the presence of men during meals for women is very high as it can affect the amount and the type of food that they are eating. This is one of the reasons why researchers consider eating as a social activity.

In addition, the researchers of this study have also found out that women subconsciously opt foods with lower calories when they dine with men. While on the other hand, men simply choose any foods that they want regardless of the caloric content.

Group of students were the subjects of this study and researchers have gathered information such as the foods that they eat, caloric value of these foods, and whom they eat with.

The researchers have found out that female students who eat with male students tend to choose smaller and healthier foods because females are more influenced by how the society views them. Eating healthy makes women more attractive and they tend to conform with this norm either consciously or unconsciously.
