Want to Lose Weight? No to Sleep Deprivation!

Those who would like to lose weight but would often love to stay late at night might not be able to lose weight effectively. This is because lack of sleep can actually slow down your metabolism. As this happens, your metabolic rate is slower and your body uses less energy, making you feel restless. This is according to a European study that was published on the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

According to the results of the study, lack of sleep can cause weight gain by increasing your appetite and decreasing your metabolic rate. Hence, getting plenty of sleep can help in preventing weight gain and promoting weight loss.

According to the study, one night of sleep deprivation can actually reduce the energy usage among healthy individuals. This finding suggest that sleep plays an important role in the regulation of energy expenditure.

Many previous studies support the claim that sleep deprivation can cause weight gain because it disrupts the levels of stress-related hormones as well as the hunger-related hormones. The result implies that the body adapts to the sleep deprivation but this adaptation can actually contribute to obesity. Therefore, if you want to lose weight, then do not sleep late.
