The Importance of Cooling Down after a Workout
Cooling down after working out has the same importance as warming up before working out. These two activities being done before and after working out are essential parts of exercise. A regular exercise routine is important especially in maintaining your ideal weight in order to prevent becoming obese.
Cooling down is termed as such because the body cools down after workouts. In cooling down, the temperature in the muscles is decreased, the rate of perspiration also decreases which causes the skin to feel cool, and the respiration rate as well as the heart rate goes down.
After working out, it is essential to allot at least 10-15 minutes for cooling down. This helps in preventing sudden fluctuations in the blood pressure which can be harmful especially for older adults.
Through cooling down, you allow your heart rate and respiration rate to gradually decrease which lessens the stress on the heart and lung muscles. Nausea, dizziness, and fainting can also be prevented through cooling down.
Cooling down provides a relaxing feeling and you will feel less tired after your workout. Cooling down is an essential element of a workout so it is necessary to implement it just like in doing warm ups. This will help in ensuring an overall well-being of an individual.
