Some Foods that are Good for the Heart

There are some foods that can cause heart diseases but there are also some foods that are good for the heart. These foods have components that can help in lowering cholesterol and improving overall heart function. Here are some of the foods that are good for the heart:

Apples

Apples are known to be rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants can help in blocking the oxidation of  low density lipoproteins (LDL) or also known as bad cholesterol. Hence, it can help in significantly dropping the levels of bad cholesterol in the body. Aside from that, apple is also rich in fiber which can keep the arteries clog free. You can cut an apple and mix it with oatmeal for breakfast. This is a power breakfast that you should try.

Almonds

These nuts can provide a rich source of sterols that can lower the cholesterol. It contains monounsaturated fats which doesn’t block the removal of bad cholesterol from the bloodstream unlike the saturated type.

Fish

Eating fatty fish like salmon for at least twice per week can greatly help in lowering the bad cholesterol levels by at least 20 percent.

Actually, there are a lot of other foods that can help in lowering bad cholesterol levels in order to achieve a healthy heart. When it comes to maintaining a healthy heart, watching your diet is very important. Aside from that, you should also have regular exercise in order to strengthen the heart muscles.
