Some Explanations Why People Tend to Eat even if They’re not Hungry

Conditional response is the reason why people tend to eat even if they’re not hungry. While scientists are still working on finding out the common triggers for this phenomenon, they have found out some of the common instances wherein people eat even if they are not hungry.

Here are some explanations why people are drawn to eat despite not being hungry.

They see a friend eating more so they tend to eat more too.

This is referred to as peer-induced overeating. When someone is thin yet she eats more, most of her peers will also do the same. Aside from that, when your number of eating partners are increasing, your caloric intake is also increasing.

The couch potato effect.

It is nice to watch T.V. while you are munching on something. Apparently, you won’t realize that you are already full and will continue to eat on your snack. T.V. viewing can make you fat because you are overeating on your snack and you lack physical movement as you are sitting on the couch the entire time.

Failed diet attempts on eating portion controlled foods

People thought that it is alright to indulge on the portion controlled foods, since they are for dieting. For those who are weight conscious, they thought that the portion controlled bags would do the trick for lessening their caloric intake; however, they tend to overeat on these portion controlled foods.

The salad effect

Eating salad is healthy only if it doesn’t have the fattening dressings. If you are fond of eating salads, it would be best not to add those dressings or have appetizers that are fattening or your diet will become useless. People who are eating salads would think that it is alright to eat much of it with the dressings thinking that it will not affect their diet when actually it has a very significant effect.

The fattening room effect

Apparently, food smells and the talk of real food can trigger the hunger mechanism. It can trigger hunger even if the stomach is full. If you are in a room with a glaring light, you tend to eat faster while soft light can make people linger and eat longer.
