Should I Restrict Myself from Carbs?
Carbohydrates are commonly found in foods and beverages. Carbohydrates may come from plant grains but usually, you get from your beverages and other foods. These carbohydrates are in the form of sugars and starches.
Carbohydrates are still essential to the diet although some people restrict themselves from eating foods with carbohydrates. Some parts of your body like your brain and your nervous system need carbohydrates to function properly.
An example of carbohydrate is sugar. The body treats sugar the same way as it treats other carbohydrates. Insulin is responsible for regulating blood sugar levels and controls the metabolism of carbohydrates and fat.
As much as possible, it is important to avoid eating refined sugars or simple sugars. It would be best to select foods with complex carbohydrates rather than those with simple sugars because complex carbs release sugar gradually; hence, causing less spikes on your blood sugar levels. Never restrict yourself from eating carbohydrates because this is needed by the brain; however, you should choose good carbohydrate sources such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and foods that are rich in fiber.
