Obesity can Increase the Risk for Kidney Stones

Generally speaking, obesity can actually increase the person’s risk for developing kidney stones. However, when it comes to the degree of obesity, it is not clear whether it can increase or decrease the person’s risk for formation of kidney stones.

Most people believed that as the weight of the person rises, the risk for kidney stones also increases. However, based from a new study, the degree of obesity does not affect the person’s risk. Whether that person is mildly or severely obese, the risk for developing kidney stones is just the same.

For the past ten years, a series of studies are being conducted and all of these studies have shown a strong association of kidney stones and obesity. However, as the worldwide rate of obesity continues to increase, experts are still clueless whether the degree of obesity has something to do with the increase of the risk for developing kidney stones.

No matter what degree of obesity is, one thing is clear: obesity can increase the risk for kidney stones. In order to prevent developing kidney stones, it would be best to prevent obesity. You can do that by eating a well balanced meal everyday, avoiding high fat meals, high salt diet, and increasing your water intake. Aside from a healthy diet, it should also be coupled with regular exercise.
