NEWS: Meridia withdrawn by Abbott in US and Canada
The Abbott Laboratories has finally withdrawn its diet pill, Meridia in the US and Canada. The withdrawal was done almost after one year when the results of studies that confirming Meridia can increase the risk the risk of stroke and heart attack in patients who have a history of heart attack and taking Meridia.
Numerous laboratories including Abbott have been studying and developing drugs that can help people to lose weight; however, these drugs may still pose some risks that make them more dangerous than useful. However, because of the banning of these weight loss drugs, there have been few weight loss prescription drugs that are left in the market and most of them can still pose risk to the patient who will be taking the drug.
The FDA in Europe has already withdrawn the product earlier this year due to the same reasons. Weight loss by drugs have always been associated with negative side effects, especially heart conditions.
With the increasing rates of obesity, it is recommended to live a healthy lifestyle and lose weight. Those who have difficulties in losing weight are recommended to exert more effort in diet and exercise. Some physicians are prescribing weight loss drugs but some drugs are associated with health risks that make them dangerous to use.
For those who have difficulties in losing weight, the best way is to consult your physician and ask for a weight loss supplement that is made with natural ingredients.
