NEWS: Diet Supplement Recalled for Safety of Consumers
J&H Besta Corp. is a company that manufactures an herbal diet supplement named Slim-30 Herb Supplement. Last July 18, 2010, the company has decided to recall this product for the safety of consumers. This is because this product contains weight loss ingredients that are not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company which is based in Hicksville, N.Y. admitted that their product contained N-Desmethyl sibutramine and some traces of sibutramine. These are drugs that are used for suppressing the appetite in order to achieve weight loss.
Apparently, the inclusion of these ingredients in Slim-30 Herb Supplement has not yet been approved by the FDA; hence, the safety as well as the effectiveness of these ingredients are still unknown. Aside from that, sibutramine can also cause increase in the blood pressure and pulse rate in some patients. These effects are not desired especially for patients with coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, stroke, and congestive heart failure. Although no injuries or illnesses have been reported, the FDA suggested that it is best to recall the products.
Slim-30 Herb Supplement is marketed as a natural herb for weight loss and sold to distributors and retail stores nationwide. It is also sold in China and online.
