Never Use Laxatives to Lose Weight

Because of the increasing rate of obesity these days, a lot of people are resorting to the unhealthy use of laxatives to lose weight. People thought that through laxatives, they will be able to lose weight and achieve their normal weight.

Using laxatives to lose weight can harm the body, yet a lot of people, especially women, think that laxatives can provide a quick and easy way to slack off the unwanted pounds in the body.

Constant use of laxatives can lead to laxative abuse which is already considered as an eating disorder. It can also be associated with other eating disorders.

Laxatives may help in improving your digestive system because they promote faster digestion; however, constant use of laxatives can also cause pain especially in your stomach.

Use of laxatives when there is constipation can be done; however, it is not advisable to be dependent on laxatives when trying to lose weight because this can disrupt the normal functioning of your digestive system. If you have constipation, then it’s better to increase your intake of water rather than take laxatives.

For those who are taking medications should not take laxatives to lose weight because laxatives can lessen the effects of the medications. Thus, taking medications while taking laxatives will be useless.

Laxatives do not really cause you to lose weight because it doesn’t burn fats. Permanent weight loss through laxatives is not possible because laxatives only cause you to lose your water weight. Fats are left in your body. You are much prone to dehydration rather than permanent weight loss when you take laxatives.

As you become dehydrated, the normal functioning of your body will be disrupted. Your body will be programmed to retain fluids in an attempt to prevent dehydration; thus, leading to water retention and weight gain.

Therefore, in your attempt to lose weight through laxatives, you will just be gaining more weight. Using laxatives to lose weight is not recommended because it can cause a lot of harmful effects to your overall well-being.
