Federal Agencies Act to Eliminate Weight Loss Products with hCG
The Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission today have joined forces against companies that are selling over-the-counter hCG products that falsely claim to promote weight loss.
hCG or human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone that is produced during pregnancy by the cells found in the placenta. Companies label their products with hCG as “homeopathic”.
An injectable hCG was approved by the FDA in order to treat female infertility and other medical conditions. No form of hCG has been approved for weight loss.
According to the FDA, the hCG products for weight loss are not proven and can be potentially dangerous.
