Fat Deposits on Waist may increase a Woman’s Risk for Dementia

Women who have fat stores in their body, particularly in their waist may be at higher risk to develop dementia as compared to those who do not have excess fat stores in their waist.

This study has been conducted in the Sahlgrenska Academy and they have published this in the journal entitled, Neurology.

It is a known fact that having too much fat in the body can cause health problems such as heart attack and stroke. According to the study, women in their middle age who have large accumulations of fats in their waist have a higher risk of developing dementia once they reach their seventies.

Dementia is apparent among older people and the most common symptom would be forgetfulness. Aside from that, other symptoms of dementia would include impaired speech, problems with orientation and recognition.

There are other studies that correlate dementia with obesity and increased body mass index. Experts are still looking for the exact connection of the development of dementia and obesity and right now, a lot of studies are still being conducted.
