Exercising Loses Its Benefits from Prolonged Sitting
For those who are exercising regularly but sitting for the rest of the day may not be able to get the benefits of exercise. Based from a new study, more time spent sitting can increase a woman’s risk for mortality.
Women who are spending more than 6 hours sitting outside of work are 37% more likely to die early compared to those who sit for less than three hours per day. On the other hand, men who are spending six hours sitting per day are 18% more likely to die early than those who sit for less than 3 hours per day.
These findings remain the same even if the physical activity are increased. The associations are stronger for cardiovascular diseases than cancer.
Experts agree that changes in physical activity and minimizing sitting hours would be the best solution to decrease the risk for developing cardiovascular diseases. Aside from that, increasing physical activity can also help in promoting weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.
