According to a new study, grapefruit can be helpful to those who are planning to lose weight.

The researchers stated that including grapefruit to one’s diet will not only help in weight loss but it can also help in protecting them from diabetes. These findings are based on the study of 100 obese individuals who ate grapefruit in a span of twelve weeks.

After that twelve week period, those who have been eating grapefruit lost as much as ten pounds. The researchers claimed that the weight loss can be probably associated to the decreased levels of insulin which is obtained by measuring the glucose levels.

Scientifically speaking, insulin is used to metabolize the sugar in the blood. If sugar is metabolized properly, then it will less likely be stored as fat in the body.

Weight loss can reduce the body’s resistance in insulin, which is common among fat diabetic patients. If grapefruit can help in promoting weight loss, then it can also help in preventing diabetes. Since being overweight or obese is a risk factor for developing diabetes.

Grapefruit is a health food that should be included in the diet since it provides health benefits aside from weight loss.
