Eat Slowly to Avoid Overeating
We are always reminded to eat slowly and chew our food properly so that we’d be able to digest it properly. Actually, aside from digestion, eating slowly also helps in preventing overeating. When you eat slowly, you tend to become full faster as compared to when you are eating rapidly.
Latest research shows that when you gulp down food immediately, you are limiting the release of hormones which signals the brain that you are already full.
The study had 300 subjects wherein their blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and gut hormones were measured before and after eating. The rate of their eating varied. Participants who have eaten at a longer period have increased gut hormones as compared to those who have eaten faster.
Based from previous researches, gut hormones are associated with the person’s feeling of fullness. The release of gut hormones are responsible for signaling the brain that you are already full. And since the latest research shown that eating faster limits the release of gut hormones, then a person would tend to eat more than he/she should because he/she doesn’t feel full yet.
Because of the said results, the notion that eating fast can make a person become obese is already supported. Thus, obese or overweight people who would like to achieve their ideal weight should start eating slower in order to avoid overeating and adding up more weight.
