Divorce and Weight Gain
Starting or ending marriage can take its toll on the waistline of both men and women. This is according to a new study. However, the time when this would happen would depend on the gender.
According to researchers, women are more likely to gain weight as soon as they got married. On the other hand, men put on more pounds after getting a divorce. The researchers also mentioned that life changes such as starting a marriage and ending it in divorce can cause the weight to go up because of stress.
The chances of packing on pounds during these two major life events are higher for people who are over thirty years old. While most people do not necessarily gain weight after a divorce but the small percentage of the population who has gained weight after a divorce may experience health risks.
The researchers explained the possible reason why weight gain can pose health risks especially for those over thirty who just had divorce. According to them, as people age, major life changes such as divorce can have a negative impact on the body. It causes a bigger shock for older people than for younger ones. Stress can add up to that, causing more health problems.
