Avoiding the Four Stages of Workout Burnout

When it comes to sticking to an exercise program, experts would agree that less-is-more. Actually, workout burnout can be very sneaky. You won’t get burnouts overnight, but instead, you will experience different stages. Knowing the several clues for workout burnout would be a great way to prevent it from happening. To help you, here are some tips about the four stages of workout burnout.

The first stage is when you are determined to achieve a certain weight for a special occasion. You never miss a workout because you wanted to lose weight before your target time. If you don’t want to experience burnout, then you should consider taking the less is more approach. Usually, burnout would occur if you are expecting to lose too much weight at a short period of time. Keep in mind that even if you are doing the most effective way to lose weight, you won’t be able to lose weight in such a quick manner.

The second stage of burnout is when your enthusiasm to workout begins to fade because you are not seeing any results as what you are expecting. This is the phase when you are not looking forward to workout anymore and you are beginning to skip working out. According to studies, the main reasons of people why they are skipping workouts is because they didn’t meet their goals and expectations for working out. To overcome this stage, it would be best to set small goals rather than large goals.

The third stage of workout burnout is when you begin to experience boredom and apathy. When you are bored with what you are doing, you become less motivated and this is the main reason why a lot of people would quit working out. In order to overcome workout burnout, try changing your the equipments that you are using. You can also try working out in the other part of the gym than on the usual place where you are working out.

The fourth and last stage of workout burnout is when you feel frustrated and you are thinking of giving up from working out. Usually, exercise will be out of your priorities and you will set it aside for next year. In order to overcome this phase, you should consider making your own schedule and ensure that you are sticking to it for at least a month. It would also help if you will have someone to pressure you so that you can continue your exercise and stick to it.
