Avoiding Starvation Mode during Losing Weight

Anyone who is attempting to lose weight to achieve their ideal weight aims to create a calorie deficit wherein the calories burned is greater than the calories that you take in.

When calorie deficit happens, the body attempts to make up for that deficit by burning the fat stores and convert it to energy that the body can use in performing daily activities. Hence, if you have bigger calorie deficit, then the faster you’d be able to lose weight. However, people would question if it is better to eat as little as possible so that the body can lose weight all the way. This should not be done because rather than losing weight, starvation mode can occur. If you are trying to lose weight, you should avoid starvation mode.

Generally speaking, the body’s metabolism is like the power plant of the body wherein food serves as the fuel. When the metabolic process happens, food is converted to energy to be used by the body. Therefore, if the food supply or fuel will be decreased, the body will produce less energy to compensate.

When the body becomes aware that you are strictly restricting calories, it would feel that it is in starvation mode and instead of burning stored fats, it will do the opposite, which is to produce fat stores. Starvation mode is the body’s mechanism to conserve body fat for the long periods of time when there is no food. Therefore, it is not advised to restrict yourself to very low calories because it can trigger starvation mode rather than promote weight loss.
