Attitudes towards Food may increase the Risk for Obesity among Middle Aged Women
Researchers have categorized middle aged women into two categories. One would be impulsive eaters and one would be guilt ridden dieters. These two categories of women are most likely to show increased risk for developing obesity.
The researchers have found out that the attitude of people towards food can greatly affect their risk for gaining too much weight, leading to obesity. Women who are concerned with their nutrition would of course be at a lower risk for becoming obese while those who are impulsive eaters and guilt ridden dieters are of higher risk for becoming obese.
Impulsive eaters are generally those that eat even if they do not feel hungry while guilt ridden dieters are trying their best to avoid food yet often leads to lack of control and become binge eaters. Aside from that, these guilt ridden dieters are also often resorting to unhealthy ways of dieting which can cause problems with their metabolism. Skipping meals would be one example. When a person skips meals, the metabolism becomes slower which means burning fats will be at a slower rate.
Middle aged women were used as subjects in the study because mostly, middle aged women are busy with their work and they are also preoccupied with a lot of things including their responsibilities in their respective families. Because of these responsibilities, middle aged women often forget to take care of themselves and through eating, they find convenience which leads to overeating.
