Aromas that Make a Person Feel Full can Help in Fighting Obesity
Researchers have conducted a study regarding certain aromas that make a person feel full and found out that these aromas can actually help in fighting obesity.
Apparently, we all know that there are certain scents that can trigger one’s appetite but we are not much aware that there are also some scents that can make a person feel full.
According to a food technologist from The Netherlands, as a person is chewing food, the scent from the back of the nose is sent to the brain; thus, satisfying the hunger sensation.
The results of the mentioned study were quite surprising. Scientists believe that these results opened doors for new methods of fighting off obesity which affects the worldwide population.
Based from the study, aromas that come from chewing solid foods would make a person feel full immediately as compared to liquid foods where less chewing is required.
Complex aromas from foods that contain more than one component seemed to be more satiating than foods that contain a single component. Those foods that are also associated with carbohydrates and protein are also more satisfying, mainly because these have high energy contents.
In addition, the serving of the foods also has a significant impact. Smaller sizes sends slower brain signals. However, in this study, there are also some variations and other necessary factors being considered. Foods that have stronger aromas even before ingesting it may increase the feeling of fullness.
Because of these findings, scientists can develop foods that will increase a person’s satiety immediately without overeating; hence, decreasing the rate of obesity.
