Are Germs Responsible for Making People Fat?

According to new research, there are certain germs that can actually cause people to overeat. This is an accidental discovery while scientists are studying about the bacteria in the gut that causes inflammation and reducing the rate of metabolism and the absorption of food.

Apparently, scientists are continuously researching about the other possible causes of obesity in an attempt to resolve the increasing obesity epidemic. The main reason why people become obese is because they are eating too much; however, the question is: what makes people eat too much?

The researchers have found out that there are certain bacteria that thrive in the intestine which cause not only diseases but also insulin resistance. Insulin resistance means the body is not using the insulin effectively in breaking down the food that we are eating. In addition, even if the obese patient is limited with food, the insulin resistance would still be present.

However, with the numerous bacteria thriving in the intestine, it can be difficult which type causes this insulin resistance and obesity. Researchers are still finding answers if it is already possible to take antibiotics to promote weight loss but one thing is for sure; treating obesity with antibiotics is hard and difficult just like treating intestinal problems with antibiotics such as Crohn’s disease.
