Another Diet Pill can Cause Heart Problems According to FDA

According to the scientists working for the Food and Drug Administration, a diet pill manufactured by Orexigen Therapeutics Inc. can help in weight loss but it didn’t fully meet the requirements for diet pill safety.

The latest review of FDA says that this drug can cause irreversible heart problems though it can somehow help in weight loss. Contrave is Orexigen’s latest diet pill. Contrave is actually the third weight loss pill being reviewed by FDA for this year. FDA mentioned that Contrave did not meet the guidelines that they have set for weight loss drugs. FDA has recently rejected the two other weight loss pills that they have reviewed earlier this year.

Despite the rejections, FDA is still encouraging the need for weight loss drugs since the rate of obesity is beyond control. The two other rejected weight loss drugs were Qnexa and Lorcaserin. On the other hand, Meridia is pulled out from the market after FDA said that it can increase the risk for heart disease and stroke.
