Alcoholism may also be linked to Obesity
According to a new study, people who have a family history of alcoholism are also more likely to become obese. Scientists have found out that alcoholism may be associated with more food cravings and alcoholism. This is true especially to women.
Experts hypothesized that the reason for this is because people tend to substitute one addiction to another. Hence, women who have a family history of alcoholism may substitute their cravings for alcohol to foods instead.
The ironic part is that people with alcoholism tend to be malnourished or not obese. This is because they replace foods with alcohol. So, for their family members who are trying to avoid the same fate, they tend to overdo it, making them obese later on.
Although the study included different variables such as age, educational attainment, and gender, the scientists are still recommending further studies to determine the exact link between alcoholism and obesity.
