Addressing Weight Issues with Teenagers

For teenagers, weight is considered to be a sensitive issue; however, with the increasing rates of obesity, it is essential to talk to your teenager about losing weight and the importance of maintaining the ideal weight. If your teenager is within the borderline of becoming overweight or obese, you need to talk to your teen so that immediate action can be taken.

When discussing weight loss with your child, it is important to discuss it privately and consider it as a sensitive issue. Instead, you should focus on health and not on the physical aspect of slimming down.Tell your child that losing weight i not about getting prettier or becoming skinnier but rather, it is about getting healthier.

While you are helping your teenager in his/her weight loss efforts, it would be best to spend quality time with your child by working out together or getting active together. This way, you can bond with your child and get to know more about his/her issues. This can strengthen the parent and child relationship.

Support is very important when it comes to weight issues in teenagers. As a parent, you should support your child in his/her weight loss efforts and avoid labeling your child.
