Safety Measures and Warnings of Adipex
You should discuss with your healthcare provider about the warnings and safety measures regarding Adipex. Notify your healthcare provider if you are:
* Breastfeeding
* Pregnant or planning to become pregnant
If you are taking other medications, let your healthcare provider know what they are. Tell him which prescriptions and prescription medicines you are taking, including herbal supplements and vitamins.
Warnings and Specific Safety Measures for Adipex
Before taking Adipex-P, you need to be aware of the following warnings and precautions:
* Mixing Adipex-P with fenfluramine, also known as phen-fen causes detrimental side effects, which includes heart valve problems and lung problems such as pulmonary hypertension or PPH. In addition, taking Adipex alone can cause these same problems, although in a lesser degree. Tell your healthcare provider if you are experiencing primary pulmonary hypertension which include the following health problems:

o Difficulty breathing
* If you already have heart problems or high blood pressure, taking Adipex-P can cause problems by increasing your heart rate and your blood pressure.
* If you are taking Adipex-P, avoid drinking alcohol.
* Ask your healthcare provider to verify that your obesity is not caused by a medical problem before you start taking Adipex-P.
* Taking Adipex-P for a very long time can cause dependency on the drug, as it is chemically similar to amphetamines, which are often abused. There are specific rules for prescribing and dispensing the drug Adipex-P.
* Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your insulin dosage if you have diabetes and are taking insulin, because Adipex-P controls the appetite.
* Adipex-P can interact with many different medications which may cause health problems.
* If you are breastfeeding or plan to start, tell our healthcare provider before you start taking Adipex-P, since there is no evidence that this drug can pass through breast milk.
* It is recommended that you exercise precaution until you know exactly how Adipex-P will affect you, as it can affect your ability to perform tasks that require total concentration, especially during the first few weeks of treatment; for example, operating machinery, piloting an airplane, or driving.
* It may not be safe to take Adipex-P during pregnancy, because it is considered a pregnancy Category C medication. Talk with your healthcare provider about the possible benefits or risks of taking Adipex-P if you are pregnant.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you should not take Adipex-P:
* Heart condition, including heart disease or atherosclerosis, also known as hardening of the arteries.
* Have an overactive thyroid, also known as hyperthyroidism.
* Have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor or MAOI within the past fourteen days. Monoamine oxidase inhibitor contains the following:
o Rasagiline or Azilect
o Tranylcypromine or Parnate
o Isocarboxazid or Marplan
o Selegiline or Eldepryl, Emsam, or Zelapar
o Phenelzine or Nardil
* You are allergic to Adipex-P or any inactive components used to make this medication.
* You are severely nervous or agitated.
* You have moderate to severe high blood pressure, also known as hypertension.
* You have a history of drug abuse.
* You have glaucoma, which is a condition of the eyes.
Adipex-P should not be taken under various circumstances and the warnings and precautions should be followed before taking this medication.
